COSHH – Pictograms set to change

COSHH – Pictograms set to change

A change in regulations means that a new classification and labelling system for hazardous chemicals has been introduced using pictograms. The new pictograms are in the shape of a red diamond with a white background and will replace the old orange square symbols, which applied under the previous legislation.

The old symbols can still be used/marketed until 1 June 2017. Until then, you may find detergents, lamp oils or other products labelled with either the old orange symbols or the new white pictograms.

It is important that all users of chemicals become familiar with the new Pictograms.

To learn more of the new signage, which includes 2 new categories for ‘reflecting serious longer term health hazards such as carcinogenicity and respiratory sensitisation’ & ‘Contains gas under pressure’, please visit the HSE website here.
